Lastometer

The digital lastometer is a highly specialized instrument used to determine the cracking resistance index of upper leather, leather lining, and all types of thin leather. This device is particularly useful in the leather and footwear industry, as it allows for the evaluation of leather’s durability and quality through precise analysis of its ability to resist crack formation.

The measurement process with the digital lastometer begins with securely fastening the leather sample within a clamping frame. This frame is designed to hold the sample firmly in place. Subsequently, a ball is slowly raised into the leather at a speed of 12 mm/min. This gradual movement applies uniform pressure to the leather’s surface, creating mechanical stress that simulates the wear and aging the leather might experience during daily use.

Additional Information

The value obtained from the digital lastometer provides crucial information about the quality and durability of leather, allowing manufacturers to assess whether the material is suitable for specific uses, such as the production of footwear, bags, or other leather goods that require a high degree of resistance. Furthermore, this test helps ensure that finished products can maintain their structural integrity over time, reducing the risk of premature damage and increasing consumer satisfaction.
